The Nowt Poncy Food Company Ltd. is an exciting new brand who have created a simple, no fuss, gluten free, healthy pasta sauce range that is compatible with many weight-loss diets. But the range is much more than that. It’s also gluten free, full of clean ingredients, extremely low calorie fat, carbs, salt and sugar. They only use fresh herbs and are vegetarian and vegan.
The ingredients are sourced from small businesses and suppliers and organic where possible. Oh and I have to mention they are based in my home county of Lancashire! By eck it’s all reet good!
When I was given the opportunity to review this brand I had no idea how much of a healthy product it was. The pasta sauces that are on the general market tend to be enhanced with sugars, salt and other artificial flavours. Because of the pay off most slimmers tend to avoid such sauces and make their own.
The Nowt Poncy Food Company Ltd. is designed so you can have predominantly have a tasty meal ready in 20mins – perfect for busy families and hungry tums!
I have split the range into three to show you
Firstly – the Syn Free options. I am a Slimming World member and have identified two of the range that are Syn Free!
Secondly the 1.5 syns for the full jar range
I know, it’s incredible right?
Thirdly- an unbelievable 3.5 syn curry sauce, yes, you can have the who jar if think you can manage it!
I wanted to try something I wouldn’t normally make so that I could judge this brand as a stand alone brand and not make comparisons. I wanted to judge it completely on its own merits. I decided on a vegetarian lasagne. A Slimming World Version. Now normally I would go for the full fat full monty lasagne and syn it. But as this brand is aimed at healthy cooking and made with healthy ingredients I decided that the healthier option was best! I normally would go for a meaty lasagne so I decided to make a vegetarian one and make it SUPER healthy! I also didn’t want to add any herbs or spices as I wanted to experience the full flavour of the Tomato and Basil Sauce.
Here’s how I made my Nowt Poncy Vegetarian Lasagne
Cooking and prep time apx 2 hours +
Pre heat oven to Gas 6, electric 200, fan 180
- I used a hand blender
- A large lasagne dish
- A small pan with lid
- A wide shallow dish filled with cold water large enough to dip your lasagne sheets in
For the filling
1 Jar Nowt Poncy Tomato and Basil Sauce
1 medium aubergine sliced thinly and then cut into small cubes
1 medium Courgette chopped the same as the aubergine
1 green pepper thinly sliced
2 plum tomatoes cut into thin wedges
2 fat garlic cloves thinly sliced
1 medium red onion thinly sliced
1/2 large bag washed spinach
Apx 9 lasagne sheets ( or more depending on the size of your dish)
Fresh ground salt and pepper
For the sauce
200gms peeled Butternut squash cubed
200gms King Edward Potatoes cubed
1 vegetable oxo cube
450ml cold water
1 large egg yolk
1/2 tsp mustard powder
Fresh ground salt and pepper
To make the filling
Combine the aubergine, pepper, Courgette, onion, garlic, and tomato in a large roasting dish. Cover with tin foil and roast in a medium oven until soft. Apx 1 hour. Remove from the oven and add the spinach. Stirring until it wilts. Stir in your jar of Nowt Poncy Tomato and Basil Sauce and Set aside. The spinach will continue to wilt.
To make the sauce
Add the potato, butternut squash, water and vegetable stock cube to a pan. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are soft. Add the remaining sauce ingredients and blitz with a hand blender until smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
To build your lasagne
Spread 1/3 of the filling into the bottom of your dish. Cover the filling with lasagne sheets – dip them individually in the bowl of water and lay them on top of the filling. Repeat. Do this so you have 3 layers of lasagne sheets with the filling in between. Pour your blended sauce over the top. Finish off with some fresh ground black pepper. I added cheese just before cooking to the top of half of the lasagne so I had a choice of using my healthy extra a or not but it’s not essential There is a generous amount of sauce to accommodate individual dish sizes. I didn’t use all the sauce but it is accounted for in the nutritional values before just in case you do use it all.
Place your lasagne back in the oven on a baking sheet and bake for apx 50 mins until the lasagne is cooked through.

As a Slimming Worlder I used my healthy extra a for a cheese topping but you can have this lasagne without cheese so it’s not included in the nutritional information .
The verdict is incredible! Absolutely delicious, I didn’t have to use any herbs or extra special seasoning in my lasagne and it’s outstanding. There’s a great dept of flavour, the sauce works very well with the roasted vegetables and I can’t wait to try the other varieties now! Well done Nowt Poncy I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will definitely make this again!
